“Meet Elizabeth!”
There have been some big changes in the studio in the past few months but one thing remains the same - our lineup of talented and mindful instructors who make up labarre’s equipe remains strong!
The list continues on with one of our newest team members, Elizabeth Striebeck, who has been a part of the equipe since January of 2025.
Born on the central coast of California, Elizabeth made her way to the Bay Area to attend San Francisco State University. Getting her undergrad (liberal studies) and master's degree (art history) at SFSU, this Gator loved the area so much that she made it her home. Remaining in the Bay meant she would also meet her husband of 24 years, Mark, and they would make San Jose their home along with their son Peter (20) and daughter Renate (18).
Sharing her fitness journey, Elizabeth was no stranger to keeping her body healthy and active.
“I’ve always worked out…quite a bit in fact! In high school I was so hyperactive, I just couldn’t sit still! From my late teens to my early 20’s I taught aerobics and took lots of dance classes. I have just always exercised.”
Her passion for the arts is a driving force in her everyday life as Elizabeth’s background inspires how she leads guests on their way to designing themselves.
“I enjoy teaching, it allows me to be creative. I have always studied the arts and I just like the process of coming up with something on my own.”
Being self critical, Elizabeth uncovers a few details on her work in front of people.
“It’s funny… I am terrible at public speaking and, as such, don’t particularly enjoy it, but teaching a class is very different. I like that people are all doing it with you and that makes it easier. It’s comfortable to teach because it feels like we are all in it together. I took ballet on and off my entire life, basically since the age of 5. It’s just in me and I think my class has more of a ‘ballet vibe.’ Many students seem to respond to that as there is a peace and a grace to it. I just try to instill a sense of peace or joy, like a reprieve from the real world.”
Continuing on about LaBarre, Elizabeth explains how she came to be a part of the studio.
“When I was first introduced to laBarre, I was working with one of the wellness providers, but I was taken by the architecture and the vibe of the building, it's just so beautiful and such a wonderful space to be in. It’s a special place and it's not your typical workout center. It's just lovely.

“I was looking to get back into teaching fitness again as I was a devoted stay-at-home mom, but it was time to get out there again! I saw online that labarre had this certification program so I signed up!
After working to become an instructor, Elizabeth put her heart into her work, especially crafting the musical theme of the classes.
“I put together my music and I really like the feeling in the studio to be happy and peaceful while trying to keep a ‘Bay Area’ feel and sensibility. I use a wide range of music - sometimes I even have some pieces in different languages - and at the end of the class, although it's typical to have some type of meditation music, like waves or owls hooting… that’s never been my cup of tea” she says with a chuckle.
“I play piano music and sometimes music you might hear in a ballet class to get those final safe stretches in!”
When not teaching a class at 1445 The Alameda, Elizabeth and her family are on the go! With Mark hailing from Germany, the Striebeck family finds themselves visiting his homeland while also enjoying Northern California’s best destinations as well. They are most definitely on the go!
The South Bay community around Elizabeth has been home for 3 decades and she has now planted her flag as a part of the labarre community as well. Under the leadership of Owner, Julie Saccento, Elizabeth is enamored with the Studio. Since its inception, labarre has empowered those who enter the doors to be a part of something special, something bigger than just a membership and that sense of caring continues.
“I love going to labarre and what stands out to me is that it is pro-women, not to say that men aren’t there. I have had several men in my classes just recently. I just really love that it's empowering and a place where people can come and feel welcomed.”

If you haven’t connected with Elizabeth, we suggest you give her class a try! See our current schedule right here!
