10/9/2017 2 Comments Welcome Karen! Please help us to welcome Karen Ashley to the equipe! This native of Los Altos, CA has spent her entire life in the area and is a graduate of San Jose State University. Karen proudly serves as a Community Officer at the Santa Clara Police Department. This 15-year veteran is currently working in the Crime Prevention Unit and we are proud to have her on the labarre “beat” now as well! But before she joined the team at labarre, Originally, Karen came into 1445 The Alameda as a student. Connecting with Founder, Lisa Alberino, Karen was alerted of openings for barre instructors and she was the perfect fit. She is strong, motivating and clearly talented in her movement and musicality. Her talent is not surprising, however, and was cultivated over time. As a young girl, Karen grew up with a passion for ballet. That love grew into an opportunity that took her east after her high school graduation to be a part of the world-renowned Joffrey School For Ballet in New York City. “In my early 20’s I picked up yoga, Pilates and became a bit of a gym junkie” Karen admits. Taking up barre fit right into the progression of her fitness portfolio. “I have tried out so many classes that were offered in the area. Everything from spinning to boot camps” Karen continues as she has shied away from nothing and excelled at all. All of these classes offered great comfort for Karen and working out in group settings helped to motivate her. She will now be leading classes in that very familiar atmosphere. She admits, though, she is a little nervous… “Once I start moving it all goes away. It’s the prep and the hype at first that gets you… but then its all good and I feel great! Exercising is an outlet and helps me relax.” She will be operating in very comfortable settings, as the labarre classes can range from very cozy to a maximum of 25 students. But how can Karen help to recall the days at the ballet studio while also working to make classes impactful and meaningful to those who join her? “The inner ballerina in me will always be there, she’s got a lot more muscles now, but she’s there! Barre and the opportunity to teach are the perfect culmination of the second half of my life.”
The second half of her life also has greater meaning, as Karen is not only a civil servant but also the mom of a bubbly and lovable 3-year-old daughter, Brooklyn. Along with spending time raising her amazing daughter, Karen states “I loves to stay busy” and there is no sign of stopping her at all! Welcome to the equipe and the labarre family, Karen!
