The Minnesota Connection

 If you have been to a labarre class before, you probably know Krissy “KT” Kubinski.  If you don’t, you should make it a point to come visit for that reason alone.
 
You will surely fall in love with her from the minute you meet her.  Don’t let her gentle, fun and bubbly personality fool you, though!  After you take any of her classes you may be cursing her name!
 
A native Minnesotan, Krissy has danced for as long as she could stand.
 
Introduced to aerobics when she was in high school, Krissy’s teaching journey began in her teens.
 
As she progressed from a fitness standpoint, she was progressing as a standout performer.  A national champion in dance at Memphis State, Krissy wasn’t done and completed her education at the University of St. Thomas back home in Minnesota where she received a degree in corporate fitness with an emphasis in health.
 
But wait… there’s more!  KT helped to form (and perform on!) the first ever NHL cheer/dance team, “The Electric Stars” of the then, Minnesota North Stars. A cool job if we should say so ourselves!
 
Krissy also crossed into other sports as an NFL cheerleader with the Minnesota Vikings and her expertise across multiple fronts allowed her journey to continue into ownership at several fitness establishments.  Currently she is the Active Life Manager at The Waters on Mayowood, located near the world renowned, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
 
“It encompasses my greatest passions, health and fitness as well as working with seniors.”
 
One would think that a journey like this would be tough to traverse as an individual, but Krissy has quintupled down on the degree of difficulty as this mom of 5 has made the trek while maintaining an incredible and loving family. 
 
That journey is far from over, and it has taken her to labarre studios where she has introduced a complete gem in the drumming class that she has perfected and it is a staple in the class schedule.
 
“I’ve always asked myself, what is the newest thing?” Krissy says as she is constantly looking to broaden her teaching skills and remain on top of her innovative-fitness game.  That meant creating a hybrid class that incorporated great fun and movement and marrying it to barre techniques specifically for labarre studios.
 
 
“When I first started drumming at the underground classes, people walked in and thought ‘What is this!?’  Then you see this joy come over people and even though they are dripping sweat at the end, people were happy.” Krissy smiles as she talks about the connection between labarre’s core class and it’s newest sensation.
 
“Drumming is a far cry from labarre (barre) but you need many different elements to shape your body and mind.” Krissy states. “It helps people expand and break away from a great barre workout.”  And that’s just what she has done – she has taken pieces of dance, pilates and barre and simply added drumsticks and some loud music - and BAM – an instant classic!
 
“I want to take the thing that they love and put it into the thing that I love!  So it’s a great mix of core values of each workout.  With drumming, your body is shaking and moving, but your mind is free.  My goal in this workout and every workout is to do just that and if you can do that, you can create a sense of community because everyone is a part of it and working towards the same goal.”
 
Lisa and Krissy, although they have been friends since they were young girls, have always shared philosophies across all fronts; Life, Dance, Kids, Family.
 
Krissy is bringing her gifts to labarre to help her friend to be successful. 
 
“She will make sure that when these doors are open - it will be perfect - it will be the best of the best.  If you don’t know… well… trust me, its going to be amazing!” Krissy beams as she talks about Lisa and the opening of labarre studios at 1445 The Alameda coming soon.
 
“Music, fitness, community combined together make a great fitness family and that’s what guests will find when they join.” Krissy finishes.
